GAMEX 2015 right around the corner

February 23, 2015

The Exmouth Game Fishing Club (EGFC) is once again hosting Western Australia’s premiere game fishing event – GAMEX. This six-day tournament is held in the fish rich waters at the tip of Ningaloo Reef, off Exmouth’s North West Cape – home to some of the finest fishing on the planet.

Exmouth was recently ranked number four in the top 10 marlin fisheries in the world by Billfishreport.com and the EGFC was also recognised as the country’s top catch and release game fishing club in 2014 by the Game Fishing Association of Australia (GFAA).

GAMEX draws visitors from all over the state, the country and even overseas to experience this extraordinary fishing. With the fishing grounds within very close proximity to shore, most competitors fish from small boats for the 35 different game fish species found in these waters – a user friendly combination no other game fishing event in Australia offers.

Exmouth Game Fishing Club Event Director, Jeni Gates said GAMEX 2015 is shaping up as another bumper event.

“GAMEX 2014 saw some extraordinary fishing with over 601 billfish (sailfish, black, blue and striped marlin) tagged and released for the event. These numbers rival the world’s very best sport and game fishing tournaments.” Mrs. Gates said.

“The fishing off Exmouth has been fantastic of late and will only improve as we move towards autumn, so we’re expecting lots of action for competitors.”

GAMEX is more than just a fishing tournament. The event also incorporates social evenings, scientific studies and educational sessions. There are activities all week for non-anglers too, including a free family fun day, Long Table Luncheon and Master Class celebrity chef demonstration.

“GAMEX really does have something for everyone,” Mrs. Gates said.

“Aside from world class fishing, GAMEX visitors can also enjoy all the extraordinary experiences Exmouth and the Ningaloo have to offer.”

This year the Exmouth Game Fishing Club (EGFC) is offering an exciting incentive to visitors from the Karratha region.

The GAMEX Event Committee is taking expressions of interest for seats on a QANTAS flight direct from Karratha to Exmouth and return!

This option is perfect for family members and partners of GAMEX participants, workers looking for an alternative for their R&R and a convenient opportunity for tourists seeking a quick get away to Exmouth during the bustling week of GAMEX.

Flights will take under 30 minutes to get to Exmouth and the more people who commit, the cheaper flights will be, so spread the word to your mates and take advantage of this great deal!

Dates for GAMEX 2015 are March 13th – 21st.
